Hi everyone! I hope your summer has been fantastic and you have enjoyed some sunshine, relaxation and of course some MILES! As I still have a solid few weeks of summer break left I wanted to drop in and remind you of one of my favorite back to school traditions: running the Run, White & Blue 5k at Delaware Technical Community College in Georgetown, Delaware.
This year will mark my 4th year participating in the event and it has me looking forward to September already! This 5k is unique if a few ways…
#1 it takes place on a Thursday afternoon. It is always nice to mix things up and add in a competitive 5k before the weekend hits. This year is no different and the race takes place on September 5th, with the race starting at 6pm. (You can visit link one or link two to find out more details)
#2 THEY DO NOT MISS A DETAIL… the food (pizza, bbq, oysters, craft beer, Vanderwende’s ice cream truck and MORE!) Seriously this race is one of the top post food race spread! There is something for EVERYONE and bonus I do not have to worry about cooking dinner!!! Another detail that I love was the firetruck spraying water- it was very hot last year so the little cool off at the end was just what I needed!
#3 Family Friendly..This race not only has a 5k but also offers a 1 Mile walk. This is great for my little people who are not fully ready to run a 5k. I participated in the 1 mile walk in 2017 when I was 1 week away from delivery of baby #3. It was great I had this option to not only participate in, but have my kids enjoy it with me! Along with the shorter distance walk option, there are also games and activities for the kids to engage in before and after the race. This is a great touch and it is awesome my kids can stay entertained for the time between packet pickup and the start of the event
#4 GREAT Cause! All proceeds for this race go to the Scholarship fund for a first responder or veteran attending Del Tech! It is great knowing that registering for this race will directly help a local students that also gives back to either our community or country!
If you do not have any plans on Thursday, September 5th I hope to see you at the starting line of the Run, White & Blue 5k. My finishing time last year was 29:59 so I would love to shave a few minutes off of that.
