April Race Round-Up

Spring if officially here- even if it feels more like winter now than it did back in February. Now that Spring has spring the race seasons is in full effect and you can pretty much find a race every weekend somewhere within 5-50 miles of your location!

Here in Delaware/Maryland things get busy and runners seem to participating in events all over. Here is what is going on in and around the area in the month of April!

Saturday, April 1st ***DOGFISH DASH REGISTRATION OPENS***

4th Annual Kim Miller 5k & 1 Mile Walk- 16 Mile Brewery, Georgetown, Delaware. This race now it its 4th year takes place in memory of Kim Miller who sadly passed away from Breast Cancer.  The race takes place on her birthday and raises money for the fight against breast canter in Delaware. Registration for the race starts at 8 with the 5k starting at 9AM. Drinks and awards follow at 11AM. Parking for the event will be at 16-Mile Brewery and runners will be shuttled to the starting line (Georgetown Fire Hall). Heart & Sole 5k Run/Walk- Trinity Logistics, Seaford, Delaware. This 5k starts at 10 am with the kiddie K starting at 9:50. All kids participating in the kiddie K will earn a ribbon so bring the kids to enjoy some healthy fun! The race benefits Nanticoke Health Services. Tie Dye 5k for Radio- Gordon’s Pond Beach, Cape Henlopen State Park. This afternoon race starts at 4:30 with registration opening at 3:30. Sunday, April 2nd

Builders Dash 5k Run/Walk- Dominion Brewing Company, Dover, Delaware. This 5k, which benefits Central Delaware Habitat for Humanity offers unlimited rootbeer to all runners (It is really good too) and four Fordham beer samples to participants over 21. With a 9am start time and an out and back, flat course is sure to  kick your Saturday off to a good start. The kiddie k starts at 8:50 for kids under the age of 10. Thursday, April 6th

Inaugural Raven 5k Senior Classic-Sussex Technical High School Cross Country Trail, Georgetown, Delaware. This 5k that starts at 4:00 is part of a student’s senior project. All benefits from the race will be donated to Delaware Special Olympics. Registration will be from 2:45-3:45. Come out and help support a local senior and a local charity! Friday, April 7th

Race for Wellness & Literacy 5k Run/ 1 Mile Walk- City Park, Salisbury, Maryland. This afternoon race starts at 5PM with registration starting at 4PM. Saturday, April 8th

Susan G. Komen Race for a Cure 5k- Ocean City Maryland Boardwalk. If looking to support a worth cause, join the team “Fenwick Friends” for the 9:00 boardwalk 5k to help battle the fight against breast cancer. Each year this race gets bigger and bigger and raises even more money. The race offers different registrations options if you want to participate but not run competitively. Georgetown Run/Walk for Color 5k-Georgetown Middle School, Georgetown, Delaware. This 1:00 pm race starts at finishes at the Georgetown Middle School. The race weaves through surrounding streets where you will be covered in colors! This race is focused on fun instead of fast. There is a special lower rate for students so be sure to make it a family event! The race will benefit the GMS Track & Field program, programs to promote healthy students and the GES Literacy program! Inaugural Dash for a Draft 5k- Irish Eyes, Milton, Delaware. This race set to benefit the Delaware State Police Mounted Patrol Unit Incorporated, starts and finishes at Irish Eyes in quaint Milton starting at 10 AM. The post race party will have burgers, hot dogs and more compliments of Irish Eyes and beer and bloody Mary’s for those 21 and older. Want to bring a guest? Dorchester Family YMCA Crab Run Half Marathon, 5k and King Crab Challenge- Cambridge, Maryland. This family fun event kicks off with the Half Marathon starting at 7:30 and the 5k stating at 9:30. 8th Seashore Classic Half Marathon, 2-person relay, & 5k- Irish Eyes, Lewes, Delaware. My favorite little half marathon of all time is still the seashore classic (read my recap here)! This race starts and ends at Irish Eyes and runs through the Cape Henlopen State Park. The start time is 8:00 and has a distance to meet everyone’s needs! I have run the half as well as the relay and both times I enjoyed the race, the course and the after party! The best part is that you cannot beat a half marathon at the price of $35.00 (if you register before April 7th!). Bunny Palooza 10k/5k- Bethany Beach, Delaware. This Bunny inspired race starts and finishes in downtown Bethany Beach with lots of fun to be had by all! The 10k starts at 8:30, with the 5k starting at 9:30. The post race party takes place at Mango’s directly on the boardwalk. All 10k finishers will receive a medal. Zoo Stampede 5k Run/Walk- Salisbury Zoo, Salisbury, Maryland. This race starts at 9:00 (rain or shine) starting at the Zoo’s East Gate. There will be random drawings, snacks and goodies and of course a wild, crazy time! Claude Hall 5k Run & Walk- Snow Hill Elementary School, Snow Hill, Maryland. This 5k race acts as a remembrance of MR. Claude Hall and raises money for the scholarship named after him. Coastal Delaware 5k- Dewey Beach, Delaware. The 5k kicks off the Costal Delaware Running Festival. The race starts at 9am and is also part of the challenge runs they are offering this year. The race starts at the Delaware seashore state park and ends at Lighthouse Cove. Coastal Delaware Marathon, Half Marathon and 9k- Dewey Beach, Delaware. If you are looking for a longer option this spring be sure to check out one of these! I will be running the half for the first time and am looking forward to the course which starts at the Delaware Seashore State Park, is flat and fast and runs some beautiful landmarks (think Gordon’s Pond, boardwalk, Silver Lake, ect). Friday, April 28th

Holy Cross Schools’ Family Fun 5k Run/Walk- Wild Quail Country Club, Camden Wyoming, Delaware. This Friday afternoon race kicks off at 6:30 with the kiddie k starting at 6:20. The race course runs through the beautiful Wild Quail Community, which makes for a nice and fast course. The race benefits the Holy Cross school fund which goes towards chrome books, laptops and upgrades to playground equipment. Saturday, April 29th

2nd Annual Tommy Ten (10k) and Daffodil Dash 5k- Cape May Lewes Ferry, Lewes, Delaware. This race benefits the Sussex Consortium in Lewes, Delaware. The race has moved locations since last year (read my recap here) but will be sure to not disappoint. Your race entry also includes a post race party with live music, food and beer. Run for Success 5k Run/Walk- Wild Quail Golf & Country Club, Camden Wyoming, Delaware. If you missed the 5k on Friday night at Wild Quail be sure to check out the run for success which starts at 8:30 with the kiddie k starting at 8:25. OCMD Island to Island Half Marathon and 5k-Assateague to Ocean City, Maryland. Now in its 13th year the Island to Island Half starts at Assateague while the sun is rising and runs back into Ocean City Maryland with a boardwalk finish. The half marathon starts at 7am and the 5k (takes place only on the boardwalk) also starts at 7. You can read my race recap here. Sunday, April 30th

Big Fish Grill 5k-Big Fish Grill, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. This race, now in it’s 5th year features a fast and flat course that winds through a nice residential area and benefits the Cape Henlopen Education Foundation (CHEF) and the Big Fish Foundation. Dover Air Force Base Heritage Half Marathon and 5k Run/Walk- Air Mobility Command Museum, Dover, Delaware. If you are interested in getting an inside peek of the Dover Air Force Base this Half Marathon is for you. The flat course is run entirely on the base with a up close view of the C5 and c17 aircraft. I am registered and running the Coastal Delaware Half but also plan to run the Tommy Ten Miler simply because I love the 10 mile distance and that race!
