I know February is not quite over but March is hot on our tail and will be here next week! The racing circuit really picks up in March, especially with all the St. Patrick’s Day themed races in the area. I will be running my first race of the year in March as well and am hoping this amazing, Spring-like weather will stick around as I toe the starting line.
If you are looking for a March race, here is what is going on around Delmarva:
Tim Kennard River Run. This event features a spectacular 10 miler, a 2-person relay and a 5k to meet any level runner’s needs. One of my favorite 10-milers in the area starts at Salisbury University and runs through different parts of Salisbury. The race starts at 9:00 on Sunday and offers morning of packet pick up, as well as a kids fun run the day before during packet pick up. Be sure to check out all the details at www.timkennard.org or visit www.seashorestriders.com to register. You can read my past recaps here: 2016, 2015
OCMD St. Patrick’s Day Boardwalk 5k. This race has grown so much since I ran in years ago. Last year a record 1,200 runners ran the boards to kick off the St. Patrick’s Day festivities that take over Ocean City, Maryland during the weekend. The race starts at 9:00 am on 4th street and runs south to the inlet, turns around and runs north to 16th street to then make a u-turn and finish back at 4th street- conveniently at Shenanigan’s Irish Pub & Grille. 11th Annual Shamrock Shuffle 5k & 15k. This is one of my favorite St. Patrick’s Day themed races! The seashorestrider event takes place behind the Ocean Side Tanger Outlet on Route 1 in Rehoboth. The course runs along the Junction & Breakwater Trail and provides some beautiful scenes along the way. There is plenty of parking on race morning and after you grab breakfast you can shop at the outlets! The races starts at 9:00 am with registration starting at 8:00am. You can read my past race recaps here and here, or check out some details of the trail here. To register, visit www.seashorestriders.com.
23rd April Fools Day Prediction Challenge. If you are looking for more of an adventure than a run, look no further. Most rules are out the window for this race and you are sure to have a good time! The April Fools race starts at 10:00 am at the Fishing Pier located in the Cape Henlopen State Park. The race will feature a course that can be anywhere from 3 to 6 miles of unique surfaces and challenges. I have not run this race in years but it was a great time and maybe this year I will make it back out for the challenge.
With all these options you are sure to find a distance that will fit into your training schedule or meet your 2017 fitness goals! So far I am registered for the Tim Kennard 10-miler and will be traveling to Dallas to run the Rock and Rock Half on the 19th. What races will you be running in March?
