Race Recap: Fordham and Dominion Brewery’s Halloween Hustle

It’s been a very busy weekend here in Dover, DE.  The weekend was kicked off with Dover Police Department’s inaugural Safe Trick-or-Treat 2016.  Of course the whole family had to dress up as pirates for the costume contest.  We had to leave the event early so we missed the winner being announced – but I am hopeful that somewhere in their hearts the judges had the kindness to overlook the two year old meltdown catastrophe they witnessed as me, Jimmy, and Grant approached them.  If points could be awarded for cutest costumes coupled with the most dramatic meltdown – then we would have the number one spot locked up.

Saturday morning brought us to family activity number two – the Fordham and Dominion Halloween Hustle 10k.  It’s not every day that a 10k takes place in Dover.  It’s even rarer for a 10k to partner with one of Dover’s jewels – Fordham Brewery.  Of course as soon as I saw this Facebook event I signed up myself and Jimmy and then encouraged several of my friends to sign up as well.   There was a team option available – and teams of ten or more that signed up by September 30th received a bonus 1 liter beer stein – in addition to the sweet finisher’s mug and custom coaster (with a bottle opener on the bottom) that everyone received.  Costumes were also highly encouraged for this run. This race benefited the Central Delaware Habitat for Humanity.  Yet another reason why I love Fordham Brewery – they are a great community partner that is always willing help local non-profits.

That is one amazing Beer Stein!
The race started and finished at Fordham brewery.  Plenty of free parking, race day packet pick-up, and unlimited free beer (or rootbeer at the end).  It was a one loop course that took participants through the town of Little Creek. The Town of Little Creek is a charming Bayshore town with an interesting history. The Town of Little Creek, settled in the early 1800’s, allegedly was first inhabited by pirates. The marsh and water views are beautiful.

In true Fordham style, the race after party was great.  They had a live band, 4 cornhole board set up, food trucks, and adult size connect four games – in addition to unlimited beer (Oyster Stout, Copperhead Ale, Octoberfest, Baltic Porter, and Spiced Harvest Ale).  Check out Fordham and Dominion’s full beer selection here and don’t forget their amazing sodas (Root beer is my personal fave).  It was a great family event and Grant had a wonderful time.  Plus, this was his first official 10K in the stroller!

This was a great inaugural event.  I want to give a special shout out to all of Team 10Keggers who absolutely rocked it out there today!  We came, we ran, we had fun, and some of us wore amazing costumes.  Thank you Fordham for another great event.

Did you run in a Halloween theme race this weekend?  If so, let me know about it! I am always looking to add some new and interesting races into my run rotation.
