Another year has passed and it again is time to stop and reflect on my running. This year we are celebrating Global Running Day which takes place on June 1st. Brooks running is also celebrating and has info on the website where you can print out a bib, find a run and post pictures! You can also pledge the miles you plan to run on June 1st by visiting www.globalrunningday.org. Be sure to go over and check them out as you celebrate what could be the best non-eating holiday ever! Also use the hashtag #RunReady as you celebrate the big day!
Why do you run?
Lately my running has been so I can successfully complete races I have signed up for. I call this running period “maintenance”. I have not been following any training plans, just simply getting out there when my schedule allows it-which is not really that much. This has been nice and not caused any kind of burn out.
How do you plan to celebrate National Running Day?
Fingers crossed I will be able to meet up with the Eastern Shore Running Club! They have a group run organized and my schedule looks like I should be able to meet them!
How many miles have you run so far this year? Do you have a mileage goal for the year?
As today, Monday May 30th I have logged 396 miles. Hopefully I will get out there today for a run to increase that mileage however the foretasted rain may change those plans.
I do not really have a set mileage goal. I would love to break 1,000 miles again but honestly with as busy as the spring has been and all the rain we have had I am behind and I do not feel like stressing out over how many miles I need to make up. My goal is to just enjoy running all year!
What big events do you have on the race calendar for the rest of the year?
Well big news it that I pulled the trigger and signed up for the Richmond Marathon again!! Amy decided she wanted to run a marathon and like any good sole mate I signed up as well! It should be a really great time as there is a total of 4 of us signed up to run and take a little girls weekend away! I cannot wait to get to that downhill finish and to be honest I am really looking forward to training!
Next week is the Zooma Annapolis Half. This will be my long race till the fall (that I have planned anyway). I also am registered for the Dogfish Dash which is taking place on my birthday! I love that it always falls near my birthday and like this year on my actual day of birth! What fun! I also plan to keep running some local races around the area!
Before I leave for a run I must have:
Since I made the best purchase of my life (Garmin 235) and I wear it all the time, as long as I have on running shoes and appropriate running clothing I can walk out the door and go! I am SO happy with my purchase!
Anyway some other things I usually grab before I go for a run are my sun glasses, water bottle, phone and snacks for the littles if we are going on a stroller running adventure!
Do you track your runs? If so what do you use?
Currently my Garmin has my heart, however I do still “log” my runs into Runkeeper to help me keep track of my mileage.
Who is your favorite running partner?
My most consistent running partner(s) right now are my kids! As long as they weather cooperates, we hit the sidewalk for a walk or run. I have also been logging quite a few miles with Amy and Kelly T and we will be logging a whole lot more runs together as we start marathon training this summer!
What races have you run so far this year?
- Surfing Snowman 5-Miler
- Feet for the Little Beat 5k (Actually 3.5 miles)
- Tim Kennard River Run Ten Miler
- Cherry Blossom Ten Miler
- Tommy Ten Miler
- eRace the Stigma 5k
- Beach Lacrosse 5k
If you have to give someone one piece of advice about running, what would it be?
Try your best to enjoy running. Do not make it a chore or work but something that you look forward to!
Describe your relationship with running in one word:
Happiness

Good luck with your upcoming marathon! I hope to run one someday.

I’m impressed with all the running you’ve done so far this year! I love my Garmin too, although yours looks much newer and fancier than mine. It might be time for an upgrade soon. Thanks so much for the chance to join your Running Day celebration!

The rain this spring has been ridiculous. It’s definitely made my schedule move around and miss some miles. Hope you can make the celebration Wednesday!

I’m so sick of the rain it has helped me not get burnt out from running though. So many unplanned rest days. I just lined up babysitting for Wednesday. Definitely making the group run and maybe even make it a date night with hubs!

Thank you for hosting the link up! This will sound really crazy but I have been considering getting a jogging stroller for my English Mastiff. She loves to be with me but cannot run that far or keep up. She looks soo sad when I leave so this way I will get a better workout and she gets to come with.

That is a creative idea! Maybe borrow someone’s first to see if she would like it?

Cool that you wear your Garmin all the time – do you charge it at night then? I love all the races you’ve done so far this year. Thanks for hosting the link up!

Honestly I have only charged it once since buying it. I charged it mid work day when I was sitting at my desk at work. Charged very quickly. I keep GPS and HEart rate off except for when running or doing a work out!
