I have always said that the Ten-Mile distance is my favorite race to run. I have now brainwashed myself and at times I have felt that I can barely finish those last 3.1 miles that a half marathon requires. Today I want to link up with Courtney, Cynthia and Mar to share with you my top 5- favorite 10 mile races!
Seaside Ten Miler– Ocean City, Maryland
This race always falls near Halloween. This year they are having it on October 29th. Fall is the best time at the beach and this race takes you up and down the historic and beautiful Ocean City, Maryland boardwalk and out on Coastal Highway. While it is a straight out and back race, there is plenty to look at to keep you entertained. You can find out more about this race by visiting the OC Tri Running Website. Also do not forget your costume if you run this one- lots of runners dress up to add an extra fun element to this race!
Bottle & Cork Ten Miler– Dewey Beach, Delaware
Dubbed as the most beautiful 10- miler there ever was (by me of course), this race is by far my FAVORITE 10 mile race out there. The race is always held in early September and closes out the 10 Sisters Race Series. The race takes you through so many pretty parts of the Dewey/Rehoboth area that the miles go by so quickly (unless it is extremely hot then they go by very slowly and it is not nearly as fun). The after party is just that- a crazy after party celebrating not only the 10 mile race, but the rest of the race series! Check out this race and others by visiting www.races2run.com
Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Miler– Washington, DC
The Runner’s Rite of Spring is always a favorite way to kick off race season. After running this race three years in a row it was a no-brainer to add this race to my favorite 10-miler list. You can read my past recaps here: 2016, 2015, and 2014 but just know that you should enter the lottery in December, book a hotel room ASAP and get excited for one of the best 10-milers EVER! This race always takes place the Sunday after Easter and if you are lucky you may be able to catch the Cherry Blossoms at their peak!
Baltimore Ten Miler– Baltimore, Maryland
The Baltimore Ten Miler takes place in early June and starts and ends at the Druid Hill Park. This race runs some similar parts of the Baltimore Marathon but does not seem to be as brutally hilly to a flat land girl like me. It does go out to the Lake Montebello turn around which is also featured in the Baltimore Half. There are many perks to this race: easy race morning logistics (plenty of parking at the start/finish area), a nice cool towel at the finish, watermelon AND the race premium is always AMAZING! In 2009 it was awarded “Best Swag” by Runner’s World Magazine! I have only done this race once but I have been planning to get back there soon!
Tim Kennard Ten Miler– Salisbury, Maryland
This is a smaller ten-miler race that should not be skipped. I have run this one two years in a row and I plan to keep up the annual tradition. This race always goes by quick as it is divided up into two- 5 mile loops (kind of) and has lots of turns. One major perk to this race is that pre-race time is spent INSIDE! This is great, especially because early March has proven to be fairly cold the past two years. Along with the pre-race being held inside, the awards and post race refreshments are all inside- full with warm soup and other goodies. One cool option this race offers is to pass on the shirt and save $15.00 off registration. While you may have a hard time skipping the hooded, thumb-holed long sleeve shirt, this does translate into a cheaper 10-mile race fee!
