2nd Strike Out ALS Race- Race Director Recap

race shirtSometimes writing recaps are so easy, and other times I feel like I am at a loss for words. This usually happens when everything goes as planned and everything is pretty much perfect. I had this same struggle when I was trying to write my Richmond Marathon recap- I trained hard, had a plan (which was to finish) and we had fun. Recap and summary all in the same statement. Oh well…

Saturday’s race was very similar. We all showed up, had fun, smiled, laughed and raised money and awareness for ALS. While it was hard not having Jack there we all did what we were supposed to do- run, walk, socialize and smile about the perfect day we were given.

Since the day went just as planned I figured I will give you a recap by the numbers:

The number of Runner and Walkers: Over 150! (slight increase from last year)

Not to forget our Volunteer Groups which probably brought our total to close to 200!

The number of prizes donated from local businesses: OVER 30!

The Amount of time it took for our first male to cross the finish line: 21:23

Female winner

The time it took the first of MANY Strollers to cross the finish line: 24:14

Which by the way was not easy considering part of the course was on stone! Talk about a game changer for stroller pushing!

Here are a few more stroller shots!

Number of Pictures I took while running the course before the event started: 4

How could I not? It was so peaceful and beautiful that morning!

Overall it was the perfect day. Again it was a day that left my heart full and happy and a huge smile on face knowing without my friends, family, neighbors, and community this event would not be possible. It was a good day to be a race director and I look forward to putting on the race director hat again next year!
