Starting out with a little intro- please tell us about your family, job, and community programs you are involved with.
I live in Deptford NJ with my husband, 2 children and 2 dogs. My daughter is 3 years old and my son is 1. I am currently a stay at home mom, which was not the original plan, but life happens. I am not involved in any community programs as of now, as my children are a bit of a handful. But I do imagine myself becoming more involved as my children become older.
Krystal is super involved with her family. She has 4 sisters, who all have small children around her kids’ ages. Her family is very close knit and I am pretty sure not a day goes by where she doesn’t see at least one of her sisters.
My favorite fitness activity is kickboxing. I currently take a Fit-X (kickboxing) class at Underground Martial Arts in Sewell, NJ. This class involves everything from Martial Arts, kickboxing, cardio, and kettle bells to tabata workouts. This class has a lot of everything to keep me in good shape and every class is different. It also helps that I workout with my sisters Jackie and Susan, one of my best friends Leah and good friend Suzanne. I come from a sports background, so I need something that changes pace, is physical, and keeps my interest. That is why Fit-X is perfect for me. It’s just like going to soccer practice! I love the girls in the class and we have tough fun coaches to train us. On days that I do not attend this class, I will run 2 miles, jump on my spin bike, or do a workout on the Xbox Fitness. Also chasing around my children is a work out in itself.
I have to admit I am quite jealous of Krystal’s kickboxing skills. She can throw awesome punches. I always knew not to mess with her before – but now it’s a whole new ball game.
I have a very supportive husband. He is also an athlete; he plays ice and roller hockey during the week. So we take turns going to our respective workouts and the other will stay home with the children. I also bring my daughter occasionally because she likes to pretend she is working out too. She has a mean plank. We have our days during the week where we do not have workouts, so it balances out. It also helps me that the facility has morning and night classes and the coaches there all awesome. I have a goal of attending classes at least 4 times a week so my workout schedule can be flexible. I will do an Xbox Fitness workout while my son is napping or go for run provided my husband is home to watch the monitor and my older child.
I don’t know about hot, lol. I use my Fit Bit Charge HR to track my fitness, diet and other activities. For me, the most important thing is my diet. I am in the middle of a fitness challenge, so I have decided to eat clean. Tracking what I am eating is essential to me so I can see what is working for me and what is not. The next one, while not a tool or piece of equipment, is the women I work out with and the owners and coaches at Underground. I surround myself with people who are extremely supportive and push me to perform at my best. I need a push most times or more like a kick. Especially when I am having a weak moment and would love a cupcake, my support will tell me to knock it off and will not baby me.
Equipment- Kettle bells are a piece of equipment I have learned to embrace. I have played soccer my whole life so arms are not my strong point. Tell me to do a leg press and I’m good, anything with arms, and it is a foreign language. I use bands for resistance workouts and also the good old medicine ball. Each of these is key into giving me great workout and I am learning to use each piece in so many different ways.
Since you have become a mom, what is your proudest fitness accomplishment?
My proudest accomplishment I would have to say is getting back to the same weight I was when I played college soccer. This is a huge accomplishment since I am over 30, have two kids and kissed that body goodbye years ago. Over the past year I just re-entered the fitness world. With my daughter I dabbled in working out but when I had my son, I went head on into it.
After having two kids, Krystal looks awesome! So bounces back so quickly – and truly gave me hope that it is possible to once again fit in your college/high school jeans after having a baby!
My main goal in 2015 is to maintain my clean eating lifestyle. I want to incorporate some different types of workouts. I also want to begin weight training. I am hoping I can maintain this level of workout and my current weight. My friend Leah and I usually do the Insane Inflatable race in Atlantic City, NJ. We will probably sign up for that race again.
Krystal is an awesome mom! I love that she takes her daughter to classes so they can work out together! Making fitness a family priority will help everyone to stay on course. How do you incorporate fitness into your family? We would love to hear about it. Until then, keep punching, kickboxing, and planking!
