While the Doctor was racing in Kent County my running crew was racing in Sussex County at the Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes, Delaware. It was a somewhat dreary, damp morning but over 100 of us gathered together to run in the 9th Annual Valentine’s Day 5k that Seashorestriders puts on!
The event started at the Cape Henlopen State Park Fishing Pier and took us for a nice stroll down one of the paved paths throughout the park. Right around the half way point us racers had to run up quite a doozey of a hill- I had actaully forgotten how steep it was considering Delaware is typically a very flat running area!! Once we did reach the top of the hill we hit our water stop, sprinted down the hill making up for the lost time while running up it and headed back to the finish line. Once we finished we had some light refreshments to snack on while results were being finalized.
For this race they had the traditional age group awards, as well as couple awards. Unfortunately me and my running partners did not win any awards, but we did pat ourselves on the back for getting out bed, braving the not so great weather and completing our first race of 2014!
I ended up finishing right around 27:12- I was happy with this time and was able to keep my pace right uner 9 minutes per mile.
We all had a great time and were happy with our finishing times. We all agreed we now have our base time to hopefully work on throughout the year as we continue to race! Hope all of you had a super sweet Valentine’s Day!
